We are migrating from NTFY.wx5fwd.net to Pushover.net for notifications
Who? Everyone using our NTFY.wx5fwd.net notification service should move to our Pushover notification service as explained below.
What? We are moving our weather message notifications from using the NTFY service to the Pushover.net service. We are publishing the same weather products, for the same warning forecast offices and areas, as on NTFY, except for a few areas that have no subscribers. After 30 days of free use, each user account on Pushover will require a one time $4.99 subscription fee per Pushover application, e.g. IOS, Android, or Desktop. For that one time $4.99 fee, your Pushover account is permitted to have ten (10) devices registered to it.
When? You may install Pushover and subscribe to our notifications topics on Pushover (below) now. Then you may unsubscribe from our NTFY topics, and/or uninstall NTFY. We are planning to discontinue our NTFY service Friday, Oct 31, 2025.
Where? This page will provide details for our weather notification service going forward.
Why? Pushover.net is similar to NTFY, but offers some advantages such as better Phone applications and services. We won't need to run our own server.
Weather notifications are available from our Weather Message Server by way of the Pushover App. Notifications are available for the entire FWD County Warning Area (CWA) or geographic areas that are based on the Council of Government (COG) Regions. The COG areas are for those who are not interested in receiving every notification in the entire CWA.
You can use either the Pushover phone app or a web browser to receive notifications. The app is available from both the Apple Store and the Google Play Store. Both the app and web browser versions are configured by subscribing to a topic via the link buttons below.
What notifications will you be receiving?
- Area Forecast Discussion (AFD) – is a product from the local NWS office, for the media and emergency management. This product contains Key Messages regarding the weather for both the short- and long-term period (today and the next 5-7 days).
- Special Weather Statements – issued for hazards that have not yet reached warning or advisory status or that do not have a specific code of their own. Commonly used when radar indicates a strong thunderstorm is producing small hail or high winds whose strength does not reach the criteria to be designated a severe thunderstorm.
- Severe Weather Warnings – includes warnings issued for Flash Flooding, Severe Thunderstorms, and Tornado Warnings.
- Winter Weather Notifications – includes watches, warnings, and advisories issued for Blizzards, Blowing Snow, Freezing Rain, Heavy Snow, Ice Storms, Lake Effect Snow, Lake Effect Blowing Snow, Sleet, Snow, Snow and Blowing Snow, Wind Chill, Winter Storm, and Winter Weather.
- Space Weather - alerts, watches, and warnings are available under the NOAA-SPACE topic.
