Subject: New Flood Inundation Map Available on the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service Web Portal

Effective on or before Wednesday, September 30, 2010, the NWS will be adding a new flood inundation map to the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service, AHPS, web portal. This map will provide information for Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Northwest Dallas County.

The flood inundation map will be available for the following location:

Elm Fork of the Trinity River at Carrollton, TX

The inundation map provides information on the spatial extent and depth of flood waters in the vicinity of NWS river forecast locations. Users will be able to display flood inundation maps for various levels ranging from minor flooding through the largest flood on record. Flood inundation maps, combined with river observations and NWS forecasts, enhance the communication of flood risk and provide users additional information needed to better mitigate the impacts of flooding and build more resilient communities.

Users can access these flood inundation maps and associated geospatial data and shapefiles through the AHPS web portal at:

www.weather.gov/ahps/

A complete list of flood inundation map locations is online at:

www.weather.gov/ahps/inundation.php

A users guide for the flood inundation map web interface is available at:
